Reopening Plan 8/10/2020

Beginning August 3, 2020, the Board Office will be open daily from 9:00-3:00. We are located at door #5 at the High School.  New student registration is done at the building that your child will be attending beginning August 20, 2020.  If you have any questions, please call 330 673 2659.

Update 7/14/2020

Field Family,

I interrupt your July with an important update. When the school year starts in September, our plan is to offer a full in-person school experience to all students five days a week. We will also be offering an on-line school experience for those who are not comfortable attending in-person. We will release a detailed plan in mid-August that will explain how things will work both at school, and on-line. I can tell you masks will be required on busses by everyone, at all times. Masks will be recommended for grades K-2 and required for grades 3-12. The mask requirement is based on the advice we have received from the governor, the Ohio Department of Education, and health officials. We will be sending a survey about transportation in August as well. If it is at all possible to transport your children to school yourself, I encourage you to do so.  The fewer students we have on busses, the better it will be for everyone. The rest of your questions will be addressed in the detailed plan coming in August. I wanted to let you know the big picture as soon as possible.

We are proceeding in this fashion because we believe having students in school is the best thing for them. There is risk in sending your children to school, but there is also risk in keeping them at home. That is why we will have both models available to you.

The word of the year is “flexibility”! I am basing everything I do on the best information I have available today. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow. All our plans could change, and they could change on short notice. Be prepared for students to suddenly need to quarantine at home for some period of days. Be prepared for a sudden closure of one school building for a day. At this moment we are proceeding with sports following the guidelines of the Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Health Department. I cannot say for certain we will have sports in the fall. Everything is one day at a time. I know most of you prefer certainty. There is nothing certain this year. We will all have to live with ambiguity throughout this year. That is why flexibility will be so important. I promise you we will do the best we can, and I ask for your patience and understanding as the year progresses. This will be a school year unlike any we have experienced.

Thank you for your understanding. I will be back in touch in August when our plan is finished.

KNOW! How to Define Racial Terms for Teens

Whether our youth are on social media, listening to music, or are streaming their favorite TV show, they are likely hearing highly influential musical artists, athletes, and other celebrities voicing their opinions on racism in America. A lot of terms are being used that we or our children might not be familiar with, which can cause mixed feelings and confusion. As we said in the previous tip, we, as parents and caregivers, must engage our children in ongoing conversations on this topic, and we must be their information filter, as young people may come to harmful conclusions about race and racism when it is not talked about openly and honestly.  Click here for a discussion guide.
