Summer Reading Challenge

Studies have shown that children, whether high- or low-income, who do not read or have access to quality books during the summer, may fall victim to the “Summer Slide” losing up to two months of reading gains made during the school year.
Field Middle School has always been a proponent of independent reading outside the classroom. In order to prevent the loss of learning that you worked so hard to achieve during the school year, we are suggesting you participate in our summer reading challenge.
THE CHALLENGE - Read (or listen to!) 2 or more independent reading books before the start of next school year. Field Middle School is excited to announce that we will be providing every student with a novel to head home with this summer! Our own ELA staff will also be hosting Zoom book club check-ins throughout the summer and there will be Google Classroom activities related to each novel for those seeking enrichment. Register for the Google Classrooms and for more information using the codes below. Online learners will be notified by text and email when the novels will be available in the office for pick up.

8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip Update

We regret to inform you that our 8th grade trip to Washington, DC that was scheduled for June 2-4, 2021 has been cancelled. The cancellation is related to the ongoing developments with the COVID pandemic. Our first priority is keeping our students safe and travel to DC this year would place them at risk. Our travel plans included a 9-hour bus ride with students seated closely together, visiting many crowded public locations, and students sleeping 4 to a room.  Given those circumstances, we cannot maintain the social distancing required to keep our students safe. We realize this is a disappointment to our students and families and we are sorry that our students are unable to travel to Washington, DC this year.

January Performance FMS Choir and Band

Our Choir and Band classes worked hard to prepare songs for a holiday concert and our abrupt closure prevented them from making a recording before the holidays. Please take some time to enjoy the performances they recorded last week.  YouTube Link

KNOW! May is Mental Health Awareness Month

In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, Mental Health America (MHA) is sharing practical tools that everyone can use to improve their mental health and increase their resiliency. While one in five people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health. In fact, among the people who took an anxiety screen at mhascreening.org in 2020, 64% felt afraid, as if something awful might happen at least half of the time or nearly every day. Another 50% of people who took MHA’s depression screening in 2020 reported feeling that they were a failure or had let their families down nearly every day Informational Flyer
