Vowel - consonant - e

When a syllable has a vowel followed by a consonant and ending with an e, the vowel is long and says its own name.

examples are : bike, came, globe, these, flute

When s is the letter after the vowel and before the e, the s might sound like z.

examples include: rise, wise,
