Online Sign Up for Fall Conferences

Please click on the link to sign up for a time slot for Fall Conferences at Suffield Elementary.  Conferences will be Nov 6th & 13th from 4:30-8:00.  Please call the office or contact your child's teacher with questions.

Parent Internet Viewer (PIV)

Children in 1st – 5th Grade brought home information on the Parent Internet Viewer.  This is a way that you can check your child's grades throughout the year.  It allows you to see grades on a daily basis (if desired).  It can be accessed through the www.fieldlocalschools.org  website under the Parent tab.  This is a great way to stay up to date on your child's progress on a more regular basis.  Because of this, there will be no paper interim report sent home with your child.  You will still receive a report card at the end of each 9 weeks period.  If you do not have internet access to use the PIV, you can contact the office and an interim report will be generated.

Picture Day

Look for fall picture forms to be coming home soon!  Pictures will be taken on Thursday, October 2nd.  We will do the group “stand up” pictures like we did last year, so if your child is absent on picture day, he/she will not be in the class picture.  If you would like to place your order online before picture day, please visit www.mylifetouch.com.  Retakes will be November 13th.

STAR Report

If you have children in K – 5th grade you are also receiving the STAR report of your child's most recent performance on the diagnostic assessment.  You DO NOT have to return this report to school, even though it asks for your signature.  This is your copy to keep.  This report will help you see where your child is at this time.  Remember this is a short snapshot of his/her performance at the beginning of the year.  Teachers will use these reports to guide individualized instruction for your child, so that each child makes a full year's growth each year.  One word of caution when viewing your report.  Often the Grade Equivalent is misleading to parents.  If your child is in grade 3 and receives a score of 4.5 grade equivalent, it does not mean your child should be in grade 4.  This means that your child did as well on the test as a typical 4th grade student in the 5th month of school would do on that very same test.  Your teacher will be able to explain this report in detail at the upcoming conferences in November.

Magazine Sale

Our Magazine sale is still going on.   All proceeds from this fundraiser are put right back into our school.  This is a PAY NOW plan.   Money or checks (made payable to GREAT AMERICAN OPPORTUNITIES) need to be turned in with your order forms.  We have 1 more collection day on September 24th.  Students returning an additional 3 sales will be attending the The Great American Basketball Dunk Show!  Day one sales DO NOT count toward day two prizes.  Be sure to refer to the orange paper sent home with information regarding prizes.  Thank you in advance for your participation in our Fall magazine sale!

From Our District Nurse - EV-D68 Respiratory Virus

The media has been covering a pediatric respiratory infectious called EV-D68.  According to Dr. John Bower, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Akron Children's, there are more than 100 types of enterovirus.  "The EV-D68 infections occur less commonly that those of other enteroviruses and most often appear as a cold-like illness.  The problem has been that it can - in a small number of patients - also cause more severe respiratory illness, especially in children who are 5 and younger and those who have asthma.  To help reduce the risk of infection, Dr Bower recommends: washing your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, Avoid kissing, hugging and sharing cups or utensils with people who are sick. Disinfect touched surfaces. Children with asthma, be sure they take their medication and follow their asthma treatment plan. Keep a child feeling sick home from school, call your healthcare provider if symptoms worsen.  Click here for the entire letter from our District Nurse, Alene Rayl, BSN, RN
