No school Monday.
Tuesday we will return to the study of rocks. We will finish reading the section on Igneous rocks. There will be questions to be done as group work at the end of the section. Homework, due Wednesday will be Sedimentary Rocks handout. 
Wednesday we will begin reading about Sedimentary rocks. Homework, due Thursday or Friday depending on the weather, will be Metemorphic Rocks handout.
Thursday we hope to go spend the day at the reservoir, weather permitting! Students may bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and their own fishing gear.
Friday we will go over the homework, finish the sedimentary rock section doing questions in groups, and go on to the metamorphic section.

This week we will be doing the abstinence program. The boys and girls will be separated for the week, one gender going to social studies while the other gender goes to science. There will be two double point homework assignments this week. The parent interview will be due Thursday and the ad for abstinence (in color!) will be due on Friday.  [...click for more]

Monday classes will continue studying about ways to identify minerals. In groups whey will calculate the desity of corundum and quartz.
Tuesday students will observe magnetite, metal filings, and a paperclip. Working in groups students will answer 4 questions about minerals. 
Wednesday we will finish the group work and go on to the introduction of rocks. Homework, due Thursday, will be the Intro to Rocks hand out. 
Thursday after going over the homework, we will finish reading the section overview of the three rock types and the rock cycle. Homework, due Friday, will be the Igneous Rocks handout.  
Friday, after going over the homework, we will finish the last set of bell work questions. Then we will begin reading the Igneous Rocks section.

Monday will be the incentive for students who did their homework the third grading period.
Tuesday - no school
Wednesday we will go over the rock cycle paper again. We will add to the prefix/suffix "keep all year" paper. We will then begin reading from the classroom set of Earth and Space books about minerals.  
Thursday we will finish reading about what makes a mineral. In groups, student will answer questions about the pages that have been read.
Friday we will begin reading and taking notes on the section about minerals' characteristics and how minerals are identified.

Monday students will turn in the double point homework assignment of the Chapter 4 Vocabulary and Concept Map. They will then take the Chap. 4 test.
Tuesday and Wednesday, after testing, student will watch Bill Nye Rocks and Soil. In groups, they will answer questions about the video.
Thursday we will go over the Chap 4 test. I will then do a "binder check" collecting 15 papers from their binders going back through the whole physical science unit.
Friday we will begin the earth science unit. We will look at pictures of earth's interier and the tectonic plates. I will also be handing out the parent infromation letter about the upcoming RSVP class which will be the week of May 21.
If we have time I will then hand out a rock cycle paper they will need to keep in their binders.

Monday and Tuesday working in groups students will complete p. 71: 2, 4, 5, & 9 and the Section 3 Review questions. They will then complete the chapter review questions on p. 74-75: 1-6, 11, 13, 14, & 16. Double point homework, due Wednesday for all classes, is the Chapter 3 vocabulary and concept map.
Wednesday will be the Chapter 3 test
Thursday and Friday students will be taking the Math state test. After testing students will go to each class for a shortened period of time. If students were unable to finish the test on Wednesday, they will have time after testing on Thursday. If everyone finished the test on Wednesday, we will move on to Chapter 4.
