Multisyllabic Words

Multisyllabic Words
Words are broken into syllables or parts.
Each part can be spoken in one push of breath.

Some multisyllabic words are compound words:
two words put together to make a new word.
*catnip
*bathmat
*catfish

Other multisyllabic words have more than one vowel
separated by one or more consonant
*picnic
*solid
*relish
*napkin

When there is 1 consonant separating the vowels:
You put the consonant at the end of the first syllable to make it a closed syllable
 
*sol-id
*rel-ish

When there is more than one consonant:
You separate the syllables between the consonants
*pic-nic
*nap-kin
