Long A Vowel Teams

ai is used in the middle of a word:
pain, main, maid

ay is used at the end of a word:
tray, may, clay

Long E Vowel Teams

ea-eat-/e/
ey-key-/e/

ee and ea are used in the middle or at the end of a word, :
beef, meal
fee, flea

ey is used at the end of a word:
key

Oi & Oy Vowel Teams
oi- coin- /oi/
oy- boy- /oi/

oi is used in the middle of a syllable:
coin, join, spoil, broil
oy is used at the end of a syllable:
boy, destroy, toy, enjoy

Long O Vowel Teams
oe- toe- /o/
oa- boat- /o/
ow- snow- /o/

oe is used at the end of a syllable:
toe
oa is used in the middle of a syllable:
boat, coat, toast
ow is used in the middle or at the end of a syllable:
own, bowl, bow, below

Ou & Ow as the /ou/ sound

ow-plow-/ou/
ou is mostly used in the beginning or middle of a syllable
out, pound
ow is mostly used in the middle or end of a syllable, but can also come at the beginning

You will need to use the "spelling options procedure" and/or look up words with the /oo/ sound when spelling these words.
Here is one rule that can help you make a good choice when choosing a spelling option:
-ue & -ew can only come at the end of a syllable
