Teacher/Staff Contact:

Bonjour! My name is Meredith Stratton ("Madame" to my students), and I am so pleased to have the opportunity to work with the wonderful students here at Field High School! This is my 19th year teaching French at FHS, and my 23rd year overall. I teach all four levels of French from level 1 through 4.

If you would ever need to contact me, please feel free to e-mail me at meredith.stratton@fieldlocalschools.org. I will do my best to respond within 24 hours during the school week. You can also call the high school office at 330-673-9591 and request to leave me a message.
Merci!

Attention parents of French I and II students: Did you know that your child can take his/her chapter quizzes as many times as he/she wants while we are in that chapter? Encourage your student to do so in order to master the chapter content!

Teaching French is one of my greatest privileges and passions. It is my goal to help each student learn to speak, to read, to write, and to comprehend to the best of his or her ability.

The following is an overview of what is covered in each level of French:

Français I

Students learn the basic building blocks of language,
from vocabulary, to verbs, to grammar, and sentence
structure. Students practice speaking and writing
on a rudimentary level. They practice their new
language skills through letter writing, skits, and projects
in addition to traditional homework, quizzes, and tests.

Français II

Students who continue to level two build upon the skills begun in level one. They learn to express themselves in a more sophisticated manner, using more complex sentence structures and more expansive vocabulary. Students continue to develop reading and writing skills, focusing more on different verb tenses.

Français III

Once students reach level three, the focus becomes more on interacting in the language, rather than just learning how the language is put together. In addition to continuing to add to their vocabulary, verb, and grammar repertoires, they begin to read information for comprehension. Readings include sections about the geography and history of France, in addition to short stories, fairy tales, and the Gaston Leroux classic, Le Fantôme de l’Opéra.

Français IV

This Honors class focuses on various genres of literature including fairy tales and legends of France, and two novels in French, Le Petit Prince and Harry Potter and/or The Three Musketeers. Students learn advanced grammar and verb tenses, and practice these skills through essay tests and outside writing assignments. Students at this level are encouraged to speak as much French as possible, whether through class discussions or general conversation.
