Guided Reading

Guided Reading Information

Guided reading is a way to teach your children great reading skills. This is used in the classroom with small group, teacher instruction. I use this in my classroom within centers. So, students see me multiple times per week, depending on their reading level. I assess students in the beginning of the year by having them read me a passage, and asking them questions. This helps me assign them a reading level A-Z. Once they are assigned a level, they are placed in groups with other students around the same level. Students then read books/cards at their level, and work through the text together, and with me. Students are then assessed around December, to see how their reading level has improved. This allows me to rework the groups to ensure students are with peers at their reading level.
