Bell Work:

Get to work!

If you do not have your Photo Recreation pictures yet (and do not have a plan to get them in the near future), find one online and take a photo during class! We will only dedicate one more day to work on this after Thanksgiving Break.

When finished, work on your Tips Doc and/or do a Go-On Activity.

Bell Work:

If you have your pictures for the recreation project, get to work! If you don't have pictures, look online to see if you can find something to work with!

Today we will...

Review some examples of recreation photos, specifically those that were recreations of pictures found online.

If you don't have your pictures today, figure out how you can get them sooner than later! Could you use a picture from the internet for the original and take a picture during class for the recreation?

No matter what, you should be doing something productive related to Digital Photo (as always)!

Goal:

Make a quality recreation through proper planning and the use of Photoshop techniques.

Wednesday 11-15-17
Posted 11/14/2017 at 1:02:38 PM by Alicia Antol [staff member]

Bell Work:

Open a sample picture in Photoshop and attempt to resize the canvas so that you can include a second picture in the same file. Remember, you will need to include the original and the recreation in the same file for comparison!

Today we will...

Keep in mind that people who take the time outside of class on this one have amazing results... gift for an upcoming holiday or birthday...?!

Go over combining pictures.

Figure out how you can get your pictures sooner than later! Write yourself a note, set a reminder in your phone and/or get a camera stamp!

If you are at a standstill on your project, work on past assignments, your Photoshop Tips Doc and/or a Go-On Activity.

Goal:

Recreate an image using proper planning and Photoshop techniques.

Think about the photo composition techniques we've discussed:

  • rule of thirds

  • framing

  • peak of emotion

  • center of interest

  • angle

How could you incorporate one or more into your next project? Look up examples of the various techniques for ideas.

Today we will...

Go over the project requirements and examples that meet the requirements for the YOYO #2 project.

Begin to work on it!

Goal:

Use what you've learned in class (photo composition techniques, combining images, using brushes, colorizing, etc.) to create a unique and visually appealing image.

Finish our "Multiple Me" Projects. Check the rubric to make sure you'll earn all the points, return your paper to the tray, and upload your finished project along with original files to Google Classroom.

Work on the Rock Off Art Contest or continue to work on your “Photoshop Tips Doc” ...how great would it be to finish it long before the exam period!? Then, you'll only have the last portion (worth 25 points) to think about on exam day! :)

Goals:

  • Create an image that includes multiple pictures of you or someone you know or a pet!

  • Explain what you know about Photoshop while working toward a good grade on the exam!

If and when you finish the project, check the rubric to make sure you'll earn all the points, return your paper to the tray, and upload it to Google Classroom. Then, continue to work on your “Photoshop Tips Doc” and/or choose a "Go-On" Activity... How about the newly added Tri-C High School Rock Off Art Contest?!

Goal:

Today we will...

Work on editing "Multiple Me" projects. Please see the rubric to make sure you'll earn all the points you deserve.

If you are waiting to take pictures outside of class...

DO:

  • Reconsider your time frame. Are you sure you will take them tonight? If not, take them during class today!

  • Write a note on your hand, get a stamp and/or set a reminder in your phone so that you don't forget!

  • Use class time today to work on your Photoshop Tips Doc.

    • Wouldn't it be awesome to have it done way before the exam period?!

DONT:

  • Lose "Go-On" points by staring at your phone or playing a game on your computer!

Goal:

Continue to work on your projects. You may:

  • Pose for/take the pictures.

  • Get the pictures to your classroom computer.

  • Begin to edit the pictures.

If you are not working on your Multiple Me Project, you should still be doing something productive… work on your Photoshop Tips Doc and/or see the Go-On binder and/or link!

Today we will...

Look through and discuss "Multiple Me" pictures - those you looked through for bell work as well as some I've uploaded to Google Classroom.

Go over the project rubric and tips for taking the pictures.

With the remainder of class, you should plan and possibly even take your photos. If you have a plan for photos, but can't work on it here at school, return to your Photoshop Tips Doc.

Think about everything you've learned in Photoshop so far...

  • Open the program and look through the tools and menus.
  • With how many are you familiar?
  • Talk to your neighbor about what you've learned.

Today we will...

Begin to create a "Photohshop Tips Doc," which will be part of your final exam.

  • You will have time to work on it as the semester continues. However, whatever you do now, you don't have to do later! :)

  • See the rubric for details on how you will be graded.

  • If you would prefer to use a different format (other than a Google Doc - perhaps a Google Presentation), that works!

Goal:

Create a Google Doc to show what you've learned so far in this class!

Scroll down to yesterday's post and review the tips for the project. Do they make more sense now that you've worked on it a bit?

Today we will...

Continue to work on our projects. Please use your resources to answer questions you have...

  • Check the project paper.

  • Check the tips on yesterday's blog post.

  • Search your question online.

  • Ask a neighbor or ask me.

    • I'd be happy to answer questions, but see if you can figure it out on your own first...there won't always be someone to ask. :)

Goal:

Monday 10-9-17

Bell Work:

Review the requirements for the Warhol Project.

Today we will...

Go over how to get started on the project. Watch the short demo on the projector.

Then, get to work! If you don't have a picture, you're welcome to take one in class today!

Here are some tips for the project:

  • Using the grid and "snap to grid" features may be helpful when sizing your images (see the handout for details)!

  • If your Threshold layer looks good in some places, but too dark in others, use the Dodge Tool on your image layer to "soften" the Threshold there.

  • Try making selections on the image layer AND on the Threshold layer - it may work better on one than the other, depending on the image.

    • TIP: When making selections on the image layer, it is helpful to hide your Threshold layer!

  • If you want to move your selection to another quadrant, make sure you're on a selection tool and use the arrows on your keyboard!
  • Colorization should be on its own layer - not the image or Threshold layer.

  • Create separate colorization layers whenever you are adding color in the same area.

    • You may have one layer for "hair color" for all 4 images. However, you may not want "hair color" on the same layer as "shirt color" if your shirt and hair touch in the image.

  • All image layers should be below the Threshold layer. All colors should be above it.

  • The border layer should be on top of everything else as it "finishes" the project.

Goal:

Create a Warhol-style image using various features and tools in Photoshop.

Friday 10-6-17
Posted 10/5/2017 at 10:17:05 AM by Alicia Antol [staff member]

Bell Work:

Check out Andy Warhol's Bio. Scroll past the video and read it. You're also welcome to watch the video with headphones. :)

Today we will...

Go through the Warhol Project rubric.

Look at some examples in Google Classroom and in the Standout Student page. What do you like/dislike about them?

Consider how you will get your image to your X-drive. Take the steps to get it here so you can start working on it in Photoshop as soon as possible!

If you get your picture(s) today, you are welcome to get started, but I'll explain a lot more about how to do so on Monday!

Goals:

  • Understand what is expected of you for the Warhol Project.

  • Consider how you will get your image on your school computer to begin the Warhol Project as soon as you can.

Thursday 10-5-17
Posted 10/4/2017 at 2:08:29 PM by Alicia Antol [staff member]

Bell Work:

Continue colorizing a black and white photo of your choice.

Today we will...

Watch one more video about colorization: How to Colorize a Black and White Photo in Photoshop by Photoshop Video Academy.

Check out the link for "RGB" settings of various skintones.

This is a more advanced technique and you are more than welcome to use it while working on this assignment and future projects! I would recommend playing and pausing it as you go back and forth between the video and Photoshop to try the techniques.

Return to your Colorization Assignment. If you don't like something about it, try another technique! Even if you turned something in already, you can always unsubmit the assignment and then turn it in again with your improved file.

Goal:

Colorize a black and white image using various editing features and tools in Photoshop.

Wednesday 10-4-17

Practice using this new tool on the picture you saved during bell work.

Discuss this tool's advantages and disadvantages.

Return to your Colorization Assignment and use whichever combination of tools you feel work the best.

Goal:

Respond to the post in Google Classroom about what you learned during yesterday's Colorization Demo.

Today we will...

Discuss a few more colorization tips.

Continue to practice using one of the black and white images provided to you OR a picture you find online.

Today we will...

Watch a video called, "How to use the sponge tool in Photoshop" by tutvid. A different version of Photoshop is used in this video, but we have most of the same options at the bottom of our interface, rather than the top.

Discuss the "Brushes Activity" and you can get to work!

  • Earn back missed points on past assignments.

  • Explore creating a brush (see the back of the Brushes Activity worksheet).

Bell Work:

Try to get two files from Google Classroom for today's demo. They are Photoshop files (not just images) so you will have to open them in a new windown and then download them. They will likely go right into your "Downloads" folder when you do.

You may cut/paste them into you X-drive from there or at least make sure you're saving your work-in-progress to your X-drive.

Don't worry if you're having trouble. I'll show everyone how to do this on the projector in a minute! :)

Today we will...

Start the Climber Demo. Follow along on your computer while I complete it using the projector. We will not finish it today, so again, you should save what you have as a PHOTOSHOP file in your X-drive.

Toward the end of class, you should "fake a sunset" using the gradient tool and a picture of your choice.

Goals:

Bell Work:

Continue working on your Reflection Image. I'll show everyone how to turn it in shortly so that when you're ready, you can do so!

Today we will...

Finish The Reflection Image Assignment. See the rubric for details on what to include and turn it into Edmodo when finished.

When you're finished, make sure all your previous assignments are complete and turned in. Then, choose a "Go-On" Activity - either from the page on our class website or come up with an idea on your own. Just make sure you're doing something productive related to digital photography to maintain your points! :)

Goal:

Create a unique reflection image in Photoshop using the Image, Layer, and Filter menus in addition to various Tools and Tool Options.

Bell Work:

Save the "Red Ferrari" files from Google Classroom to your X-drive.

Today we will...

Go over the questions associated with the BLT - Layers Demo.

  • If you haven't turned yours in yet, you may type your responses as we discuss them. If you've already answered the questions, you may make corrections if necessary.

Complete the Red Ferrari Demo.

Create a similar image using pictures of your choice for the "Reflection Image" Assignment.

  • You may use your own pictures or pictures you find online. Either way, you will need to save them to your X-drive. Keep originals because you will turn them in along with your completed file.

Goals:

  • Review selection tools and layers.
  • Experiment with a filter, a flip, and the eraser tool.

Today we will...

Watch a video about managing layers.

Return to the BLT Layers Demo, save it as a JPEG, and turn it into Google Classroom. When you do this, you will need to answer some questions (also in Google Classroom) for full credit.

Make sure all assignments so far are complete and turned in:

  • YOUR Photo Composition

  • Selections Practice - FoodFace

  • Layers Demo - BLT

If you have extra class time, choose a "Go-On" Activity.
