Unit 3 Diagraphs

A diagraph is two letters that come together and make one sound. wh, ch, th, sh and ck are diagraphs taught in unit 3.

Ck is always at the end of a syllable and follows a vowel. (a,e,i,o,u) Chick and also chicken ck is at the end of the syllable. A syllable is a word or word part that is make in one push of breath. A syllable must have at least one vowel.

Three ways to spell /k/. C before o, u or a. K before i, e, or y. Ck at end of a syllable and after a vowel.

Two ways to spell /w/. Most of the time use w. Wh can only be used at the beginning of a word. If you aren't sure best guess is w.
