Unit 7 consonant blends

Tricky ones are dr which to many first graders sounds like jr and tr which sounds to many first graders like chr. So if you think you hear jr use dr and if you think you hear chr it is more likely tr.

C and K get tricky in blends too.

ck comes after a vowel, not a consonant! Black is okay, but risck is not!

When the consonant blend is at the end it’s a “k”! and example is t a s k and m i l k

When the consonant blend is at the beginning and it’s the 1st letter, it’s a “c”! For example:

c r a b and c l u b

When the consonant blend is at the beginning and it’s the 2nd letter, it goes by the “k” and “c” vowels! For example s k i p and s c a r e

Skunk, skull and skate break the rules!
