1st Grade
First graders continue working on the State of Ohio Music Standards using a wide variety of activities. Here are some of the concepts we'll be exploring:
  • Continuing to perform melodies and matching pitch well in a varied styles of music, including folk, patriotic and seasonal music.
  • Performing and recognizing different kinds of voice use (singing, talking - including rhythmic poems, and voice sounds).
  • Discovering that voices and instruments have different pitch ranges.
  • Keeping the beat in various tempos using body percussion and classroom percussion instruments.
  • Hearing and experimenting with sound production in the percussion, string and wind families.
  • Performing, hearing and moving to music of varied eras and expressing different moods.
  • Exploring the elements of music, emphasizing the ones related to creating mood (dynamics, tempo, articulation . . . )
  • Identifying elements of music as heard in recorded music from varied eras.
  • Creating new verses using rhymes and our own solo endings to a song.
  • Hearing the same and different phrases in a song.
